How to become SDM

SDM stands for Sub Divisional Magistrate. SDM’s post is ranked highest in the State Administrative Service. Officers in society have due respect and enjoy a prestigious life. You can become a Sub Divisional Magistrate by two ways:

  1. Through Union Public Service Commission, UPSC
  2. Through State Public Service Commission, often referred to as State PCS

Through UPSC

  • Graduate from any stream
  • Qualify the UPSC Civil Services Exam
  • Get into IAS

An IAS officer is appointed as a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and is the first post of an IAS officer at the Sub-Divisional District level after the probation period.

Through State PCS

  • Graduate from any stream
  • Qualify the PCS of your State
  • Get in the top ranks to secure the post of an SDM

Salary & Facilities Offered to SDM:

An SDM receives his pay in the Rs. 5400 grade pay band 9300-34800. Together with the pay, the SDM gets other benefits. These benefits include the following:

  • Official vehicle, usually with a beacon
  • A telephone connection, bills of which are paid by the government
